What happens if a teen misses a dose of Zoloft?

If a teen misses a dose of Zoloft, the medication leaflet advises taking the missed dose as soon as they remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, they should skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time.

How long will a teen need to take Zoloft?

Teens are generally encouraged to take Zoloft for at least six weeks to see whether it improves their symptoms. If it helps, treatment may continue for several months or longer, depending on how the teen feels and what is decided together with their doctor.

Can teens outgrow the need for Zoloft?

Some teens can outgrow the need for Zoloft. A teen may have a brief episode of anxiety or depression that resolves in adulthood as their body and brain finish developing or as they learn new coping skills, including skills gained through therapy.

Zoloft vs. Prozac for teens – which is better?

Zoloft and Prozac are both SSRIs prescribed to teens, but they differ in FDA approvals and common side effects. Prozac is FDA-approved for treating major depressive disorder and OCD in teens, while Zoloft is FDA-approved for OCD in teens. Zoloft is more likely to cause stomach-related side effects such as nausea and upset stomach, whereas Prozac is more likely to cause headaches and nervousness.
