OUR CLINICAL FOUNDATION

When an adolescent faces a mental health challenge, the entire family can feel the weight of uncertainty. As a parent, it’s normal to find yourself searching for answers. Trying to navigate the numerous treatment options can feel like you’re waging an uphill battle. To add to the complexity, you want outcomes that are genuinely transformative and long-lasting.

How do you decide which treatment center to choose? At Mission Prep, we believe it’s the clinical foundation of the treatment programs that make all the difference.

Over the years, we’ve seen many families arrive at our center after having exhausted all other options that provided only temporary relief. These experiences have only made us even more determined to develop our programs on a robust clinical foundation, so that both adolescents and families can benefit from the treatment long after its completion.

On this page, we’ll introduce you to the clinical foundation that informs everything we do at Mission Prep, explain our evidence-based methodology in detail, and demonstrate how our approach creates meaningful outcomes for even the most complex mental health challenges.

Our Clinical Foundation

What Is Our Clinical Foundation?

At Mission Prep, our focus is to create long-term and sustainable results for our clients, and this requires a unique approach. That’s why our treatment umbrella looks not just at the adolescent but also at the family.

Familial relationships, how they interrelate, and the environment or unique circumstances in which they function can have a big bearing on mental health and the effectiveness of the treatment.

Our clinical foundation is grounded in a form of talk therapy called Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R). This highly effective evidence-based framework builds upon and goes beyond the first-line traditional approach of another effective framework called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). We don’t just look at symptom management, which may only provide short-term relief.

Instead, we emphasize treating the adolescent as a whole, helping to identify and develop strengths, nurture their deepest aspirations, and build resilience to deal with challenges head-on.

At Mission Prep, we recognize that adolescents are not defined by their mental health challenges.  Whether your teen is struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, technology dependence, trauma, or academic and social challenges, our clinical foundation ensures that they’re receiving care that can be sustained for the long haul.

What Is CT-R?

CT-R originated from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT has always been the gold standard for talk therapy where thoughts and beliefs are seen to be a part of the problem – it has been proven to work time and time again. But treatment methods can evolve as scientists and mental health professionals identify more effective approaches.

CT-R is a natural evolution of the traditional CBT approach. It goes beyond symptom management to gently guiding your adolescent toward creating a life they can love and enjoy. It’s the key to healing that lasts.

Mental health challenges can also be complex and highly individualized. Approaches that work for one adolescent may not necessarily work for another. We have found that CT-R is especially powerful for teens who don’t respond as well to other therapeutic approaches.

The CT-R approach emphasizes:
  1. Strength identification and development
: Teens learn to identify their unique strengths and resources and how to leverage these for growth and development.
  2. Meaningful goal-setting: Teens are empowered to set and pursue goals that are personally important and relevant.
  3. Activation of an adaptive mode of living: Teens learn to shift from ‘patient’ mode to being an active creator of their reality.

This approach is especially effective in increasing adolescent self-esteem and confidence to deal with and manage anything that life throws their way. It helps them develop motivation, engage better with others, and learn effective ways of managing their symptoms.

The research shows that CT-R creates sustainable change by addressing not just the mental health challenge, but also by activating and driving the adolescent’s inherent potential to overcome and thrive.

While most mental health care centers focus on generic treatments, through the clinical foundation of C-TR, we are able to provide treatments that are uniquely tailored to each adolescent and their family.

Our Partnership With the Beck Institute

To further our commitment to exceptional patient care, we have established an advanced training partnership with the Beck Institute, founded by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the pioneering force behind CBT. The institute has a globally acknowledged reputation for developing innovative and effective evidence-based mental health care treatments.

CT-R was developed by the Beck Institute to deliver cutting-edge mental health care solutions for clients expecting sustainable outcomes. This mission closely aligns with Mission Prep’s commitment to deploying the most innovative, effective, and evidence-based treatment solutions for adolescents and families in our care.

This partnership has enabled us to develop a comprehensive training program that ensures each and every member of our team is well-versed in CT-R’s guiding principles and techniques. This ensures consistency and cohesiveness in our approach, so your adolescent is expertly taken care of every step of the way.

How Our Clinical Foundation Affects Our Services

Our CT-R-based clinical foundation influences everything we do and how we plan our mental health treatment services. We offer different options depending on the specific challenges that your teen is currently facing:

  • Residential Treatment: Our 24-hour care facility provides a peaceful, calm, and welcoming ambiance ideal for healing. At the state-licensed facility, our mental health experts utilize both individual and group therapy options to help teens get through stumbling blocks, develop practical coping skills, and build positive beliefs for a wholesome life.
  • Outpatient Treatment: Our outpatient services are geared to helping adolescents transition from residential treatment back into their regular routines. Utilizing CT-R principles, we provide customized care for both the teen and their family to ease their integration at this critical stage of their recovery.
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment: Intensive outpatient treatment is an option that we’ve developed for families who need access to intensive yet flexible and affordable care for their teens. Depending on the level of care required in terms of duration and approaches, mental health centers typically provide payment plans, apply for scholarships and grants, or offset against your insurance. Connect with a member of our team to find out the options available to you.
  • Telehealth Services: Telehealth sessions are another option that’s available to help you transition with minimal friction post-residential treatment. Our clinicians continue to maintain the same level of care even in virtual settings, so you don’t feel like you’re ever missing out on face-to-face interactions. These sessions are also an excellent option for clients who have tight schedules or find it challenging to travel to the center.
  • Family Involvement: Family intervention is core to our programs. While your adolescent is undergoing care with our team, we also look at family dynamics to help address interactions that may be contributing to or adding to your teen’s unhelpful thoughts and moods. We help you identify your strengths as a family and develop healthier ways of engaging with each other so you can best support your teen with their recovery.

What Our Approach Means For You

Our approach provides several benefits that contribute to its success rate in ensuring sustainable outcomes.

1. Personal Empowerment

Our treatment methods involve helping teens move from being passive observers to active creators in their process of recovery. We look at engaging teens to identify their most important needs and aspirations and channel them into realistic goals they can achieve. Personal empowerment is critical to developing hope and resilience, enabling teens to take charge of their lives.

2. Focus on Strengths

Too often, when a mental health challenge strikes, adolescents can fixate on perceived weaknesses and the things that are going wrong in their lives. We help teens move past these obstacles to recovery by helping them identify their strengths, abilities, and resources.

In the process, their confidence and drive to make positive change increases, taking their focus off of crushing negative thoughts and behaviors.

3. Personalized Treatment

The CT-R approach is inherently personalized. We respect your teen’s unique life experiences, desires, aspirations, and needs. We factor in these elements when we build treatment plans and when we work collaboratively with your teen and family to set meaningful and motivating goals.

4. Sustainable Recovery

Surface-level results are often temporal. By focusing on adapting unhelpful thoughts and behaviors and building practical psychological skills, our approach creates change that lasts long after the treatment ends. Our aim is to help your teen create a solid foundation for a happier and healthier future.

5. Family Transformation

Our C-TR approach incorporates the family as a whole, which means that parents and siblings are collaborative participants in the healing process. You’ll gain insights, skills, and techniques to moderate the way you interact with each other to best support your teen’s recovery. You’ll find that your family dynamics change for the better as part of this transformative process.

6. Hope and Resilience

True healing isn’t measured solely by the reduction of symptoms. We measure the results by how well we’ve managed to help a teen develop hope, optimism, and the capacity to create a life that they love.

When you choose Mission Prep, you will be giving your teen the opportunity to not just recover from their current struggles but also develop the foundation for lasting mental health and well-being.
